    My Polycarbonate keeps blowing out

    I have a 6' by 6' B&Q greenhouse that I bought four years ago. First year (after much help from Mrs. Compost Corner with the assembly), it was fine. The First winter gales removed most (eventually all) of the Polycarbonate sheets, with, fortunately minimal damage to them and they were all collected.
    Recently I tried using "No more nails" external adhesive to hold them in place, and they blew out again, removing the rubber buffer between the Polycarbonate and the frame. One had lost the rubber sheets so extra adshesive was applied and even this blew out. I had got in all the wall panels but now have more out than in again. Any suggestions?

    Silicone? It's got a bit more flex in it than NMN has, which might help. Otherwise, what about some really wide greenhouse tape round all the panes, overlapping? http://www.lbsgardenwarehouse.co.uk/...sfile=1&jump=4
    If all else fails, give up on the polycarb and cover the frame with polytunnel polythene

      try duck tape on the top and bottom.... and silicone sealant is better than no more nails as it is flexible and gives a bit more

        Oh, and just another thought I had CC, is you frame fastened down to something? If it's not held down hard enough, there might be a bit of flex/movement in the frame that encourages the panes to pop out?

          Thanks folks, I'll try the silicone route, with maybe a little tape to help out.
          The frame is fixed down as well as I can manage, the base is screwed to the concrete patio, but I struggled to get thr screws in, so possibly a bit of flex there which I will try to rectify also. Thanks again.

            I had exactly the same problem and I used the 4" clear plastic duct tape on the inside.

            Instead of sealing the joints vertically, I ran four stripes around the panels horizontally (two on the walls, two on the roof).

            It looks a sight but I don't have to keep asking the neighbours for the panels back.

            It's survived a couple of crazy March winds and hopefully I'll be able to leave it intact this Winter rather than take them all out and store them.

              Just a quick update, I currently have a fully functioning, all panels in place, greenhouse thanks to a roll of clear all weather adhesive tape for "repairing glass, plastic and plastc sheets." £3.99 for a 25m roll of 50mm tape from Lidl. Hope it works, wind seems to have died down after me fighting it all day to get the panels in. So thanks to all for their suggestions.

                  Hi CC

                  If you do go down the silicone road, dont put silicone right round the panes as it will make it especially hard to remove if you need to, say for instance if you need to replace a piece of polycarb.

                  The best way to use silicone for polycarb is to 3 or 4 blobs on each side of the pane that way it will hold the panes firm and be easy to remove if needed.

                    Thanks for that advice. The tape seems be holding for now, but does let rain under it. If I lose any from now on, I have a tube of silicone handy (from the local pound shop) I'll remeber your advice.

                      We use netting over our polycarb, works a treat. Didn't want to mess with silicone as previous post have mentioned it would be relatively hard to remove.

                        Can't give any advice about silicone or tape I'm afraid, but to stop the panels in my polycarb blowing out, I wedge a six-foot bamboo cane diagonally across the back panels (where my house takes most of the wind). This prevents the most vulnerable panels from blowing out, and therefore prevents the rest following suit. My site is exposed to frequent high winds and gales, but the panels have remained in situ since the canes went in.
                        A good beginning is half the work.
                        Praise the young and they will make progress.

                          Big test tonight, blowing up a real hooly. Hope the tape holds otherwise it's off to the garden centre again this weekend, and I really can't afford that. Fingers crossed.

                              Woohoo! the tape has held. All plants fine and dandy. Good ol' Lidl and their glass tape.
