Grandads Greenhouse

    Grandads Greenhouse

    Hi

    My grandad had sadly passed away - I am hoping to have his green house. It will remind me of him when i work in it.

    I wondered what would be the best floor for the greenhouse?

    Well Sue, first of all let me say I am so sorry your Grandad passed away. I am sure he would be pleased to know that you are putting his greenhouse to good use.
    My Dad passed away 11 years ago and left me his greenhouse as I was the only one in the family to be interested in gardening.
    My Dad had a path down the middle of his greenhouse and used to grow tomatoes in the borders but after a few years the soil became depleted.
    When I inherited it i paved it all and used it to put containers on.
    You can use the borders with a path down the middle but when the soil is spent you will have to dig it all out and replace it.

      Commiserations on the loss of your grandad. Mine was a gardener too, and I think working in his greenhouse will be a great comfort for you.
      As Bramble says, it depends whether you want to grow in the borders, or, in containers. And, how the greenhouse is constructed as to whether it needs to go onto a brick base. What sort of greenhouse is it?

        Sorry to hear about your Granddad. Mine was a keen gardener too, sadly he didn't have the luxury of a Greenhouse, but I often think of him, and my Nan when I'm pottering about in the garden. I think they're my inspiration.

        My Dad grew in the soil in his Greenhouse, then decided to put down stones and grow in containers. Not sure what I would do if I had the choice, but I think I'd go for a central path and soil down the sides just to see how it goes. If it's not a huge space you can replenish the soil each year.

          Comiserations VN. When/If I get a new greenhouse, my plan is to gravel it & grow in half grow bags which can then be put on the beds when finished.

            I'm sure your Grandad would be thrilled his greenhouse is still being used and by a much loved grandaughter. do him proud by growing some cracking stuff
