  • G/House auto vent fitting

    hi Everyone
after a bit of advice please.
Has anyone fitted autovents to their greenhouse roof ?
my GH is Elite Belmont and upgraded to Bayliss XL roof vents but all the holes on the vent dont match the holes on the autovent
did/do you have to drill new holes ?
instructions supplied are vauge to say the least, just thought the would fit direct since they came from the Elite accessory book

Most auto openers(hope thats what you are talking about) just fix to the frames using nuts and bolts through a small plate that compresses itself onto the frame. If it's not what you are talking about, I'll slink back and out of the thread in shame

      Hi AP
yes that is what i'm talking of
i have the bolts and the plate but i assumed as was from the Elite catalouge it would straight fit but the holes don't line up
no real biggy, i can drill some more but thought id ask the wise collection if thats what peeps have done as seems silly to be drilling a brand new house

mine also fitted with clamps and screws so no drilling was needed.

have a look here at this page there's a clickable link to download a PDF of the fitting instructions for a Bayliss XL roof vent it might make more sense than the ones that came with yours:-

The idea of the clamps is that you don't have to drill. These automatic openers don't last for ever and you could have to buy another one shortly and may not be able to get the same one you have just bought. You can't drill every time or you will end up with all holes and no frame.

Ahhh, thanks AP, i think i have been really dull and misread the instructions
as it had 2 holes i assumed that these holes line up but i see that the clamp overhangs the leading edge allowing you to see the screw holes
missus not gonna be happy with me tonight when i explain that i could have finished glazing yesterday....ooops

            Thank you ever so much

Oh Large One, you are such an innocent. Just tell her indoors that you're not going to drill holes in your new greenhouse and that you are going to make a clamp out of a few bits in your shed and then claim to be an engineering genius when it works

i have had 2 of these previously there ok but the problem i had was when open and windy it resulted in my roof opener getting bent and twisted and you can never manage to straighten them if i was to ever use them again i would look to fasten some light chain to each bottom corner securing the window so it could only open the desired amount and not be blown open
