Default Chilli Plants and Pot Size?

Hi there,

I'm notsure my chilli plants are in the correct pot size? They seem a bit slow to grow - ive grown them from seed since around april - and they are around 7inches tall just now - but as this is my first time gardening (and this forum is helping me LOADS!) im unsure if im hampering their potential? The pots are 7inches.

thanks,
Neil

Hi have you potted them on in small successions? If so then am sure they are fine. I waited til the roots were showing at the bottom then potted mine on.
A couple of mine have flowers on and the plants aren't very big, maybe about a foot or so high.
Don't think they get very big plants anyway, but am sure someone else will come who knows more than me

Chilli plants / varities vary in size, I've got some that are pretty enormous (well about 3ft tall and still growing) and others that are only a few inches. I planted most of my seeds back in January and they're not beginning to fruit but it's very slow. Bear with them, don't over water and you'll be fine.

They look super. You never know when they'll suddenly shoot up. Especially after transplanting, it can take a few weeks.

Hi all,

Just joined today and from what I have read so far, it's a fab site!

I sowed my chilli seeds in April and the plants now look great. Lots of lovely green leaves and loads of flowers but very few fruits. A lot of the flowers seem to have dropped off before setting and I am a little worried that I won't have very many fruits at all.

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give.

Allyson

I'm no expert but I do mist the flowers and that seems to work.

BTW Welcome to the vine - the grapes are a wonderful bunch

My chillies were very slow to get going - both last year and this. I now have lots of green chillies on the plants, but they only appeared in the last week or so.

Depends a lot on the variety I expect, but I recommend not panicking yet!

Default slow chillis

Thanks for the advice.

Hayley, I will definately try misting the flowers and Kristen, I feel much more hopeful now!

Hopefully they will produce more fruits a little later on.

"Whats misting?"

A [fine] water spray. Increases humidity, and can make the pollen more "sticky"

I find poking my fingertip (gently) into the flowers one after another works just as well if you don't have a mist/spray bottle
