    Books

    Hi All,
    I'm going to treat myself to some books. Growing under glass and poly tunnel books. I know its a bit contentious to ask for peoples favourites coz we all differ in what we prefer but does anybody have any suggestions on which books I should be reading. Ive been to Amazon and there are a LOT to chose from!
    The poly tunnel is about 30' and the greenhouse is about 50'. They could be bigger but I haven't measured them.
    There is absolutely nothing in either the poly tunnel or greenhouse.
    I'm very excited about this veg and fruit malarkey.

        No probs save money on books = buy more seeds Once you have a library card you can reserve & renew books online,IIRC there are 6 libraries in the group & all pool their books

          Just buy them all, Wizz - ya can't have too many books. Books are treasure!

          (They also give you an excuse to buy lovely old bookcases...)

            A good Greenhouse/polytunnel book for the UK and Ireland climate is Vegetables for the Polytunnel & Greenhouse by Klaus Laitenberger. https://www.quickcrop.ie/product/veg...s-laitenberger
            Klaus Laitenberger was former head gardener at The Organic Centre at Rossinver, Co. Leitrim, Ireland for a number of years. I found the book very good.

              Others are interesting and make the odd interesting suggestion but I used this as a polytunnel (and almost gardening) novice and still refer to it regularly to keep me in line. The only thing I had to do was write the names of the veg above the relevant page.

              and for the garden Real Seeds recommended this one and I bought it:-

              I found it very readable and again eminently useable for a novice. This has the veg name at the top of the page which is what made me write on the other one. (I hate people who write in books!)

                Nothing to do with the polytunnel or greenhouse but for the novice I would always recommend 'The Vegetable & Herb Expert' by Dr. D.G. Hessayon. It is probably on of the easiest to read reference books around and is full of information.

                Not expensive either.

                    Wifey got me that when I first started,deffo one to have close by she also got me 'The Fruit Expert' after I built the cage for the berries & currants

                        I have most of the "Expert" books from my early adventures in gardening. They tell you as much as you need to know without all the waffle of the "celebrity" gardening books.

                          In Dr. Hessayon's series there is also The Greenhouse Expert - that also may be worth looking at.
