  • TOP TIPS for using SEARCH?

TIPS for using the SEARCH facility on this site.... Are there any?
I ask because it doesn't seem to respond to standard ("Boolean") Search codes using AND/OR/NOT, inverted commas or +/- signs. For example Rabbit recently asked an interesting question about "grey water" but entering grey water, "grey water", grey + water, grey AND water etc all result in 13 pages of references to Shades/Sheds of Grey, grey hair, water cress.... etc --- er, which may be interesting but not as helpful as it might be. Any Top Tips to recommend?

type in google ""grey water" growfruitandveg.co.uk"

Yes, I can't get the search on this actual site to work either but the tactics above using google has a very good hit rate

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

why re-invent the wheel? Google came into it popularity as a search engine, the forum a place to chat and share, so it makes sense to me to use that for which is what is it's strengths....

I've struggled with the search "function" ever since joining, will revert to gurgle from now on!

              It's hopeless since the updates.

Now, I go on Goggle, type in "growfruitandveg grapevine fags" (to find Redser's fags thread).
Don't click on Web, or Images, click on More, then you get a dropdown box: click on Discussions.

Nicos, bit of a tangent but whilst in touch, could you maybe ask whether it is possible to insert a tick box on the thread list beside each post that the user can check to mark a thread as read. The only option meantime is to mark them all as read.

I use the new threads list but have to open every thread so that it ceases to be in bold on the list whether I have any interest in that thread or not. Hope you understand what I'm getting at.

As for the search facility on the Forum. yes it is Cumbersome

It lets me see how far I have made my way through the posts and any subsequent posts become bold again.
