  • Previously Free Flower Buckets Co-Op

When this topic has come up before, I have always advised people to try their local co-op which, until now, has been happy to dispose of used flower buckets to those who ask for them as they had no apparent recycle policy or alternative.

I have just been down to my 'local' at Saltdean and have noticed a price tag on them of 50p for 5.

Now this is still a great price and I've been lucky enough to have my fill already of the freebies - but do not follow my old advice as they are no longer FREE.

Hope this will avoid some of you the embarrassment of a 'free expectation'!

If no tickets are on the buckets - it would still be worth an ask as they may be changing policy store by store, area by area.

Oh dear - you folks got a free 'spolling airer' thrown into the title - oops!

But 5 for 50p is still a better offer

Whisper this. Last time I went to Morrisons there were only 6 on show so I asked if they had any more to make up the 8, "In fact," I said, "I'll take more if you've got them." -17 with one peice of tape round the lot - 99p.

maybe im being a little cheeky but........

if anyone could get some of these and maybe post to me i would be forever grateful theres no where round here that give them away or sell them

i would in fact pay all cost of buying and posting

To be honest darcy, i dont think they would be worth it, it would probably work out cheaper to buy your pots from poundland

That's good news darcy - you'll be all set up for next year.

If you get a mixture of large and medium ones something I've done for the past couple of years is to pierce the medium one for growing and place inside a non-pierced large to act as a water reservoir.

This could be done with 2 of the same size if you add a layer of elevation to the bottom pot - grit or stones.

Also if they set aside a large number - don't turn them away. They store very compactly/neatly in a 'tower' and some have a tendancy to split etc if you don't pierce with a heated nail or I use a garden claw to get a neat row of 3 holes x 3. Believe me you can never have too many pots of this size!

                        Happy growing!
