Am off this week to start getting the new lottie sorted a bit more. Plan to get a few so that at least the soft fruit end will be looking good.

Oooh finally I know something ericaceous just means they like acidic soil. I bought some ericaceous compost on Tuesday for my three new blueberry bushes. Going to grow them in pots

Try this:
Prepare the ground by digging in composted sawdust, composted pine bark. If none of these are available, you can use peat or ericaceous compost.
Plant bushes after leaf fall (November - March). Tip back the branches and remove any flower buds before planting, so that the plant can concentrate on establishing its roots in the first year of growth.
Addition of manure to the planting hole is not advisable. Mulch newly planted blueberries with composted sawdust, sand, leaf mould, chipped pine bark, or peat (if no alternative is available).

Beware buying fruit trees from Lidl. In 2007 I bought two apple trees - a Cox's Orange Pippin and a Granny Smith - and a cherry tree from the local Lidl store. The cherry tree died. When the apple trees produced their first fruit I discovered that the Cox's Orange Pippin is actually a variety called Ellison's Orange, and the Granny Smith is Spartan!! After much correspondence I did get a refund. The apple trees are producing but the fruit is not very flavoursome and, more to the point, not what I wanted.

Cheap is not always cheerful!!

Just thought I would mention! It might be worth checking in your area when the offer is running! It differs depending if you live inside or outside the M25 area! I saw Pauls message on Sat morning. I went post haste to my local Lidl Which is South Ockendon in Essex! The Offer there starts this Thursday 9th Oct!! There are other plants on offer as well all at the price of £1.29 each! Also 10 Panzy plugs for think is £1.99

Now you all know where I will be bright and early on Thursday morning, banging on lidl's door at one minute to eight just b4 they open!

I think that the offer starts everywhere this Thursday, Paul had just posted the link after the general Lidl's up and coming e-mail came out.

went to lidls today and got my plants, 3 of each, except gooseberrys cos they are horrid, also got a bargain in wilkies, the garden arches were half price, so £2.50 each, they are big ones ....... got 3, so i'm gonna plant the bushes, cover them with the arches, and put netting over the top ...... complete fruit bed for under £30

thats a great idea you know, I had two cheapies from woolies this year, and was thinking of doing the same next year, not sure I can find room in the garden though for fruit bushes as well, although it would work just as well for beans etc.
