  • how to save my plants on holiday

Hello - am going away for a fortnight on Saturday, and though willhave someone staying in the house who claims he will water (and feed the guinea pigs natch), I'm worried about my beloved plants. Any suggestions re: what I can do to help them survive? And am worrying about how to clarify to him exactly what to water when, given that I've got a bit of everything, in pots and in the ground...
Advice please grapes. OH and that reminds me, I've just bought a vine in a smallish pot, but won't have time to buy a huge one for it before I go...

Give them all a good watering before you go. Anything that's in the ground should be OK given the amount of rain we've had recently. Pots are another matter, you could write a list for your friend (assuming you don't have hundreds of pots).

Last year when I had to be away from home to look after my daughter I tied bright orange tape round those plants that my husband HAD to make sure got watered ie squashes etc. in tubs. He then didn't have the panic of remembering which ones he HAD to do!! It helped a lot (still didn't get the rest watered as much as I would have done it but hey - they survivied after a fashion

You're welcome! I did have to make sure that the tape (well actually lengths of orange felt) were WIDE and BRIGHT so he couldn't miss them!!
