Default Growing medium for container garden

Hi all

Having only a balcony and no garden, I am going to have a go at growing veg in containers, and have been reading around for basic advice, as I have never even kept houseplants before.

Following advice based on Square Foot Gardening, I want some coarse vermiculite for my container mix and have bought a bag for £6.69 (Sorry, it doesn't say on the bag what quantity it holds) and now want some more.

Is the "SILVAPERL INSULATION VERMICULITE GRANULES V4 100LTR £7.92 EA "

from Travis Perkins the same stuff, or a specially-for-insulation/not suitable for gardening type of vermiculite?

Obviously, if it's the same stuff, or would be equally suitable for my purposes, the 100ltr buy from TP looks like better value.

Would a kind person please put me straight?

Thanks in advance.
