I have screwed a large tin can to the edge of a shelf in my tool shed and keep a piece of oily rag secured with a length of thin wire stuck in it.

This way, when I come in from the garden, it's simple to find something suitable with which to wipe over my tools and secateurs.

A good idea, and put a bucket of sand by the shed door, just push spades etc into it to get the soil off. It seems to help keep them sharp too.
