  • Should strawberries lose their leaves in winter?

I built this strawberry planter last summer, and in the autumn planted it up with lots of large runners. Most seemed to root, and put on some growth, before ending up brown this winter (though weirdly one has retained its leaves). Does this mean they are doomed, or do they bounce back once the spring arrives?

The compost looks really dry. I may be tempted to pot them & give them a good drink. The leaves do die of in winter but new growth should be showing.

Sorry I am with BM. They look brown and crispy rather than brown and sleepy. Don't give up just yet but give them a good drink and keep an eye on them. Unfortunately it is due to them being planted in shallow soil and the way they are tiered - rain doesn't get to them easily fingers crossed you are not to late
