  • Transplanting asparagus?

A neighbouring plot holder an our allotments is giving up her plot at the end of this season and has said I can have some of her long established asparagus plants before she goes.
Is it possible to transplant asparagus plants successfully?

yes ..i've done it but you will need to treat it like new plants and not cut it in the first year at all and hardly at all in the second year ....my little patch is quite sparse as i had to move half of it the year before last and then added new plants last year but we've eaten some and if you are getting the plants for free its worth trying!
PS Asparagus with a goats cheese sauce - grilled.....wonderful.

Prepare your bed well, dig up the asparagus with as much root as possible (will probably be lots), dig appropriate size holes in your bed, drop the new plants in holes and water really well. Keep fingers crossed and don't crop next year.
