  • Spring onions or garlic?

How do you tell the difference at this time of year? I think it smells of garlic but I would have thought I would have had bulbs now so I'm wondering if they're the spring onions I planted next to them. Trouble is it was two years ago I planted them so I can't remember

Last year was a bit of a bad year for me so the beds were abandoned. However I've also found some parsley which is great so I'll be moving that somewhere else.

Spring onions look like grass when they first come up where as garlic is more like a hard pointy leaf. They won't bulb up for a while yet - I think they put most of their bulb growth on at the last minute. Or did you plant the garlic 2 years ago aswell?

Spring onions have a round leaf whereas garlic has a flat leaf [in cross-section]
