I have just bought a pretty decorative Crab Apple. I intend to espalier it. Any tips?

Is it a maiden, or has it already been shaped?
Do you know which rootstock it is grafted onto?
How large do you need the espalier to be?

I was rather hoping for a URL I can grasp they are two forum areas but could not find it as it is further up the chain than I've been before, ie outside On the Plot. Found it myself though !
