  • pH for Blackcurrants

After sometime away for various reasons I'm now back on the scene.

I have a smallish bed that I have just created in the main part of the garden (7m x 1m) which I want to be ornamental but also include produce. It is against a South facing fence, but is dappled shade for half of the day and full sun the rest.

The main decider is the soil pH which is 5.5. I have of course got a couple of Blueberry bushes but was also thinking of putting a couple of Blackcurrant bushes (Ben Connan).

The articles all say a pH of 6.5 to 7.0 is best for blackcurrants. Has anyone grown them in soil with a pH of 5.5, and if so how where they?

    Thanks.
