strawberries + growbags

do strawberries grow well if growbags or is it a bad idea? and must mention my apple tree it was bought in the winter as a bare root and will it produce apples this year?

A few years ago I grew some in a hanging basket and the crop was reasonable (I only had about 5 plants) once I'd worked out how to keep the birds off!! The problem I had with growbags was mice, they ate all my strawberries!! but theoretically they will grow in growbags (I always use the soil from growbags for my hanging baskets) just keep them well guarded from the wildlife.

Your strawberries will grow perfectly well in growbags - and slugs will not be problem if you grow them off the ground - place your growbag/s on a bench, staging, length of 8" x 2" timber or similar.
Just remeber to water well and frequently especially once the fruits start forming.

Over several years I have never matched the crop quality and volume achieved by strawberries planted in a dedicated bed. It is possible to grow them in pots, troughs, baskets or gro-bags (I've tried them all) but in my experience they just don't do as well. There is also the maintenance issue of regular watering, while those in the ground are left to their own devices.
