  • Egyptian Walking Onions

My darling husband (and he is a real darling) has a big bee in his bonnet that he wants some Egyptian Walking Onions.
I've Googled all over the place and can't find a supplier.
Can any of you great Googling Grapes point me to a supplier
Or if you have any let me have a little clump or seeds to get me started.
    I'll pay all expenses.
    Hope some Grape can help.

    Hiya

There were some in the seed parcel that went awol - but enough of that upset.

I got mine from ebay from Canada - turned up in a week or so.

I'll have lots hopefully next year to swap, as all mine are in the ground and have sprouted.

Just checked ebay - and there's someone in Ayrshire selling them...

          Lol.

I heard about potato onions the other day - they multiply underground - just like spuds. Anyone ever grown those?

I thought that - but it would seem they do exist.

If my onions start walking, I'm running. Fast!

Good luck with them, Alice. Look forward to reports on this exotic species!

Have to say I've never heard of them.
Good luck in your quest Alice.

I know Beans and Herbs sell them. I'm sure I read Snadger grows them - he tried growing them in pots but don't think it was too successful.

Zazen - yeah I've heard of potato onions but have never found a UK supplier - plenty of US suppliers who send out seeds in Autumn. Don't suppose you have found a supplier?

Thanks Zazen. If all else fails I'll look for a US supplier who will post to the UK.

                              Hi
I have some of these plants which I bought last year, they're also known as tree onions; stems and leaves can be used as chives. Small bulbs form at the top of the plant which can be used as onions. Those bulbs left on will eventually become top heavy, bend over and then form another plant.
I ordered them from here:Poyntzfield Herb Nursery. They are £1.50 per plant. Hope this helps.
