  • Chinese yam

I've grown some Chinese yams, and I reckon this year they're big enough to harvest. Does anyone have any harvest/storage/cookery advice?

I can't say for sure whether I've ever eaten a Chinese Yam but I imagine they taste like any yam.

My Chinese cookery book has two recipes, Yam with Minced pork or Steamed Duck with the usual Chinese cooking seasoning of soy sauce, sherry, sesame oil, salt, pepper, sugar, cornflour, garlic, ginger, shallot but cook it in stew style as opposed to quick stir-fry that might not be long enough to cook the yam. The Net should have few good recipes.

Sorry for asking, how do you grow yam and they really grow in UK? Not from seeds surely. For harvesting, I reckon you treat them like potatoes (or someone else will come along with more concrete advice).
