I wish I had room for a greenhouse. Is that 'Natch' all grown up in the pics.?
I thought I'd ask you Nick, as our resident cacti expert (amongst other things), what can you suggest I do with the one in the pic.? I tried to keep it upright by turning it & repotting it but it insisted on becoming a 'trailer', will it be O.K. like that. In the other pic. it seems to have a fruit on it, in the past these shrivel up & I pick them off but would they have viable seed in them, there just seems to be a bit of brown dust?

Hi SueA, yep thats the Natch - she'll soon be 1 !! As to your droopy cacti, some do this naturally - they grow on cliff faces etc and there are a couple of ways round it.

1. plant it in the bottom of a pot & hang it up like this



2. tie it to a stake

As to the seed pods - they may be OK some are self fertile and they aren't too hard to grow from seed you just need a gritty compost (I use a 50:50 mix in JI & sharp sand) steralise it by puting it in the mocrowave for about 30 second if you only have a small amout in a plastic bag or for an hour or so in a biscuit Tin in the bottom of the oven if you need more) water thouroughly with boiled ( & cooled) water sprinkle the seeds on top and pop in a plastic bag & seal the top. Put somewhere warm & light and hey presto

Thanks Nick, I hadn't thought about hanging it up but not sure how I would do that as it's quite a big heavy cacti. If I potted it the way you've shown I wouldn't be able to water it as I keep it indoors & the water would just run out of the bottom & if I tried to trail it over the side of a basket it might be lopsided as it would weigh down one side. I might try that though & put a few smaller cacti or similar in the other side to try & counterbalance it. I might give the seed a go as well, thanks.
