    swap vegetable seeds (mine) for flowers (yours)?

    sounds like a lonely hearts ad...no, what i mean is that i have a shameful and enormous store of interesting and ordinary vegetable seeds, and hardly any flowers, esp. the hoverfly-attracting kinds, and would love to do swapsies if anyone's interested. the ones i want sadly aren't on the virtual seed parcel or i'd be in there like a shot (saw them on Sarah Raven but too £££, obv.)...
    so...anyone got (rough spellings i know):
    eschschschschschschschschscholzia/californian poppy 'orange king'
    knautia macedonia
    scabiosa
    cosmos rubens/antiquity
    dahlia bishop's children
    zinnia envy
    tagetes linnaeus
    mammoth dill
    burpuleum
    salvia patens
    and anything else which is good for insect-attracting...as you'll have gathered, variegated and/or pastel colours are not welcome in BroadRipple's weirdly primary-coloured garden...

    One of the best for hoverflies is calendula (English/pot marigold). Another flower they LOVE are lilies

    I have a few of those tagetes linnaeus self-seeding on the plot mid-summer: French marigold "ruby" or "rusty" or something. Sadly, I don't have seeds of it, but I'll try to save some for next year

      I just bought some phacelia and crimson lover to use as manure, but am planning on letting the phacelia self seed in a patch in the front garden if I can

      You're welcome to some of either or both?
      got some self saved smelly [I think] marigold from last year too, and soem poached egg seeds [I let it self seed, so I dont need the seed any more]

        I have loads of different marigolds saved from last year.
        Can't remember exactly wich ones (note book is down the plot)
        But I remember french, african and a couple more.
        I also have edible flowers wich deter bugs!!
        Can't remember what they are called either, think it might be natasium ?
        Will have to check later.

          Nasturtium is a herb, the flowers are edible (and delicious). It doesn't deter bugs though, in fact it attracts blackfly in their millions: so it's useful as a sacrificial plant amongst your beans

            Looks like I was on about calendula?
            Don't know why I said nasturtium? I know I have gone a bit mad on flowers this year.
            And all edible too

              Calendula is a sacrificial plant for blackfly too They love it. So do hoverflies, which are good (their larvae eat lots of aphids)

                  hello - thanks for this everyone...and two sheds, wd love some of those tagetes seeds next year if it comes to pass. i do have calendula and billions of nasturtium (yum) but yes sounds as if more tagetes are the answer, will see if have any lurking.
