  • Onion sets for overwintering.

    Hi Folks.

Well what a bummer... I'm placing an order with Garden Organic today and they have everything I need other than onion sets.
I was going to put in Radar and Electric Red but they've sold out!

Garden Organic were selling them in bags of 130, though I don't imagine I'd have used anything like that amount.

Does anyone have some to off-load or any suggestions where I might get some?

Mmm, you did leave it a bit late for ordering.
Try Wilkinsons? They won't be organic, but they'll be onions

      Dead right I did.
I've been wanting to place an order for ages now but have been really short on money up until last night when I was finally paid some money owed for work I've done.

Now I'm ready to order it seems I'm chasing up scraps!

A nursery not too far from my allotment is selling the last few silver moon and senshyu for 40p per 100g (there's about 30 to 40 sets left of each) but again, not organic. I guess it would be enough to keep me eating onions until the Feb and March sowings are ready to harvest.

I'll be nicely chuffed if I can find some organic ones this late in the game though. I know it's probably a bit late to be putting them in but I'm in a "so what? put 'em in and see what happens!" mood.

Are there any other online retailers that might have organic ones?

Garden Organic had some in their shop on Monday; both types. If you'd have said last week, I'd have grabbed you some.

          Now that's just annoying! Haha.

I wonder, might there still be some in the shop? I don't know if they have separate stock levels for that and the mail-order side of things.

I'll have to see if I can find a number for them and ask. Are you far from there?

If I'd known last week what I know... I'd have said! Haha.

          EDIT:
I just called the shop at Royton and apparently they have Radar and Red Baron sets in stock.
I didn't think RB were one for overwintering though.
I'm almost tempted to take a road-trip, but they'd be some seriously expensive sets if going all that way for them. Grr.

I think they mean Electric Red; that's what they were on Monday - I sat looking at them for long enough......unless those sold out and they got a new batch in.
