Is it easy to grow loofah in the UK? If not, how big does the plant get and how long till it fruits? Ta!

Whats the nutritive value of this vegetable like? Never eaten it before.

No idea, I got the seeds last year but didnt get round to planting any.
I wasnt planning on eating them I was just planning on growing back scrubbers if succesful.

I grew it 4 years ago and last year too. Last summer was terrible, the young flower buds were killed by frost (they were grown outside).
Mapcr77 are you growing it for the sponge or as veggie ? for veggie, grow the ridge one...yummy! For the sponge, grow the non ridge one. They will need sunny and warm location and grow better in a green house.

I think they're a bit like courgette but maybe with watery, spongy texture so tends to shrink a lot from cooking. I love eating them .

Anybody grown Hairy Gourd in the UK or Europe?

Certainly only the edible kind for me . Can't spare land for ornamentals. They're quite nice to eat, not quite like your normal courgette, more succulent and tender, slurpy, slurpy, slippery in the mouth.

You would be surprised at the amount of people who think it is from the sea.

I would have if I hadnt seen them as a child growing in spain.

As green goes they are top,

When they are small you can eat them, when they are bigger you can wash with them when you have finished you can compost them.
