Default The Holy Grail - Crimson Flowered Broadies...

I cannot BELIEVE that I passed up the opportunity to buy these at the Malvern show in the Spring ('50p each seed!!!! I don't think so!' D'oh!) - they are THE purdiest things..... I also have a feeling that there's a grape or two on here who may have grown them and may have some seed.....hmmm?

I have SO fallen for these, I'll swap vitually anything (bad tempered black and white cat, anyone??) to get my mitts on half a dozen seed to sow for seed for next year (and I know that they are promiscuous little blighters, so I can even find a space (thanks mum!) well away from anything remotely broad beanish so I'll have oodles of true-seed for next year....)

Any chance of a few anyone.....?

It's just called that, by the looks of it, Tony. Plants of distinction have it but is's out of stock, HSL isn't offering it this year.

Details are here

If the cat's no good, I have a right arm that I'm not currently using?

Default erm...

Ho ... I was after some last year... missed the opportunity to get some from the HSL. This year I got some from Plants of distinction with the intention of growing for seed only.

Good job I decided to order and not wait for this years HSL as it appears they dont have any.
Will hopfully have lots of seed this time next year.

You and me, both, Seasprout - I'm going to start mine off in pots and put about half a dozen of the plants in a block in mum's garden where there's no chance of cross pollination, all for seed, then the rest go to be grown at the Hill to be admired by all!

I wonder whether the purple flowered version will have the same wonderful scent as the others?

PS They may go well with the red seeded Epicure that I grow!

I'll be sure to let you know, Snadge!

Talk to me nicely for seed next year, or invest a grand total of £4.04 for your own seeds from the nice lady at Brown Envelope Seeds.....

Sorry Hazel if I'd seen this I could have given you one ... seed that is I've grown it for a few years now. If you've got a greenhouse plant some earl and grow in 6 or 7" pots the scent will know you backwards when you go in in the morning to water them !!!

In the Victorian Kitchen Garden, Harry Dodson mentioned a yellow podded Broady as well but I think they are extinct now as I've not been able to track them down.

I'm glad they arrived. I'm the 'lady' from Brown Envelope Seeds I found the Grapevine while vainly googling myself. I'm not very versed in blogging and have failed to find the introductions forum that it was suggested I introduce myself in. Although I sell seeds I'm also interested in swapping. I'm particularly interested in finding good hardy varieties that work well in our damp not too sunny island.

Hi Mads welcome, no Intro forum - yet. We asked for and got a 'wildlife thread' instead sorry! You can always say hi in the 'chit chat' section though. We do have some other Irish Grapes posting, so maybe they'll be able to help with varieties to chose?
