Default Will this chicken soup be ok to eat?

Ok.. i made a homemade chicken soup with lentils, pearl barley, chicken etc about a month ago. The little that i didn't eat went straight into the freezer.

Defrosted it yesterday and reheated it until boiling in the micro. The my dad brought some curry round, so the chicken soup went straight into the fridge.

Will it be ok to reheat today and eat? Or should i bin it?

I wouldnt chance it Beki. Just blame the waste on your Dad - nice surprise but he could have warned you!

shoot me down in flames of hygiene, but if it was me, and i'd cooled it, then popped it in fridge, i would happily eat it. Not saying you should, but just saying i would...

yup, i'd eat it too, as long as it's reheated properly it will be fine honest ...... like food thats out of date by a day or 2 and everything else that people throw away ....... it is still fresh

wonders what we all did before use by dates ....... oh yeah we ate it ....... unless it looked or smelled bad even then we'd have just cut the bad bits off and ate it anyway lol

You have to do what you feel is right for YOU.
In times like this I think 2 things....
What people living rough eat, like wise the starving of the world
and
They have come a long way with medicines now!

totally agree - when you buy from butchers etc. you have to generally use your common sense (and senses!) as to whether something's ok or not. I'm forever retrieving things that DH tries to throw away because of the sell by date. He'd be horrified how past it the chorizo in the fridge is!

You've got to be sensible obviously - I wouldn't fancy chicken that's been sitting out for ages somewhere warm, but to be honest, I'd probably prefer that if it was nice and free range to a freshly cooked £1.99 battery horror from Tesco's.

the only things i do worry a bit over are things like cooked rice, which can be quite nasty if kept too long and especially if not refrigerated, and dairy stuff like soft cheeses and fresh mayo ...... but as i make most of my stuff fresh, i haven't got use by dates ..... cheese and bread is off if it grows mould, milk is fine until it smells, eggs last for months after the use by date, if in doubt stick them in a tall jug, if they sink they are fine, if they float half way eat them soon and if they float, chuck em

i used to work in a food testing laboratory, and we did tests for use by dates ...... most fresh things are fine for at least a week after ....... they stick the use by dates on to cover themselves, and errrr so you'll chuck it out and buy a new one ..... dried and tinned food, will last almost indefinitely as long as they don't get wet or the tin is dented or rusty. ....... and if something looks off ....... then it probably is lol

I can't see what would be wrong with it Beki. If you know it has been under good, hygienic conditions and you haven't contaminated it, the bring it to the boil for 3 minutes and eat it. You'll be fine. Enjoy.

Bring it to the boil again, and if it smells OK, it is OK. That sort of soup will get a funny smell if there is anything wrong with it.
