  • Sarah Raven's Garden Cookbbok - CHEAP!

I may be the last to know of course but I've just seen S.R.'s Garden Cookbook (RRP £30) is only a tenner with The Book People. P&P is only £1.75 as well, and it's a weighty tome!

No affiliation etc, just thought it was a good deal!

    hoooo... bargain.

Dint we get a bit of it in the last issue of GYO mag...? Extra Pamphlet thingy..? Where did I put it..?

Might get it from the library first to see how user friendly it is.

    Ta Seahorse.

Yup, that's the one! I was impressed with the extracts but (being a cheapskate) I put in a mental 'when I see it going for a song' list... and now I have!

        Just do it!

Buy it, peeps! I used Waterstones book tokens to take the sting out of the £30 price tag - THOROUGHLY recommended.

How good is the Index? That's how I rate a cookery book. If I have a glut of say, tomatoes, I want to look up "tomatoes" in the index, not have to trawl through lots of recipes hoping to find something appropriate. The best indexing I found so far is in Rose Elliott's books.

It's arranged by the month that you would expect to be harvesting, then by veg, and has both a good contents page, and index.

So for Sep/Oct you start with apples, with 9 apple recipes inc. apple cake, juice, chutneys etc; then aubergine, with 5 recipes, etc etc

The whole idea is that you take what you are growing and THEN find something to cook with it.

Sounds just what I want. We have piles of BBC Gud Fud in the kitchen, which I find absolutely useless because how on earth am I to find a recipe for a glut of courgettes, without trolling all the way thru every issue? Books and mags like that do my head in, they encourage people to go out and buy out-of-season produce at over-inflated prices, with no thought to the environmental impact.
I'm on the list for Sarah Raven, should get it sometime 2008

                  Hi all

I really do like Sarah Raven's books - really user-friendly and loved her booklet that accompanied the GYO mag.

Two Sheds - I'm mainly vegan and absolutely love Rose Elliot. My neighbour (whose brother is vegan) recommended her books to me. I'd not come across her before that and I've not found anything that compares to her. I've now managed to acquire a few of her books (love her bean book) and love her recipes. The chocolate cake recipe is one of my faves!

                  Blessings

May I add my 'Star Rating' to the Sarah Raven Cookbook that you're talking about? It is worth every penny, and you won't regret it. Buy it now, and you'll have loads of ideas for when you harvest all those gluts. Is my humble advice.
Not swayed in any shape or form because Trousers thinks that Sarah Raven is just the loveliest creature that God has created in a truly perfect garden.

But she is Wellie, and as an aside, I use the book quite often.
