    Default River Cottage Squirrel recipe

Last night Hugh prepared several grey squirrels for the pot. They had been trapped in the wild. It's repeated on Saturday if anyone is interested.

Please do not watch this episode if you like Grey Squirrels. This episode shows how to prepare them from trap to table.

We have a lot of grey squirrels in the trees around the allotments.

If whilst watching them, one should happen to loose it's footing and fall 60 feet to its death, I may pick it up and eat it! (After first cooking it to HFW's recipe of course!)

What put me off a tiny bit was when they left the feet on the skinned carcass.

Andi&Di your DD sounds brilliantly adventurous about food, my DD watched when I killed and dressed a chicken then we all ate it. Also I am able sometimes to get a complete deer and she has watched twice while it was butchered, she knows where her meat comes from.

Thought she might run away with the smell of butchered deer!

Someone has already said squirrels are just Tree-rats but so far I've resisted the tempation (?) to try either

Hugh may have just tipped the balance on that one though.......

I was once in a shooting syndicate whose only rule was if you shoot it you've got to eat it.Well to cut a long story short one of the lads shot 2 grey squirrels at the request of a farmer,I was dissapointed , I thought they'd taste of nuts.
