| Someone bought cakes in to the office today, and the conversation got round to cakes you remember as a kid. The little bakers round the corner from my ma & pa's (it's no longer there) used to sell this stuff which I seem to recall being called "Scotch Cake". The only way I can describe it is solid! It had like a shortcrust pastry top and bottom, the top coated with sugar, and the bit in between was like a compressed "mincemeat" kind of filling, but dryer. It was served in wedges, and I used to love it! I'm sure it was really good for you. Can't for the life of me find any reference to it on the internerd. Anyone have a long lost cake they remember having as a child but have never seen since?

This was served in wedges, and as I remember was a lot more solid, and heavier than Eccles cake.

| Can you still buy Wispa bars? I haven't seen them in ages... they were yum, although they did seem to get smaller in the latter years of production... not really a cake I know. One cookery book I've got has a recipe and a very unflattering description of Black Bun... being very very sweet and very very dense, sounds like the sort of thing that could take out a cow at twenty paces ![]() Black Bun

| I understand they are bringing back the Wispa bar. Due to popular demand, as they say.

| Be warned - apparently they came out as a special edition in Ireland - but as a once off. There are loads of Wispa addicts going around trying to buy up the bars they find as there aren't anymore being supplied. |

| Ne'mind - I've got a wheelbarrow!

| Wispas were OK but in my mind they were always just a copy of Aeros really. There was also a Cadbury's bar (I think) which had bits of biscuit in and possibly raisins also. They were nice but can't remember what they were. Fortunately my all time fav choccie is alive and well - just a couple of squares of Green & Blacks Maya Gold is heaven for me!

| Known as Black Bun up here. Great food - often served at a wedding at about 1am!

| HeyWayne, I can post the recipe from my old cookbook (apparently first published in 1971). Another cake recipe that I used to make, and absolutely love from the book is Wiltshire Lardy Cake. valmarg |
