  • sign of the times

has anyone else received their "fresh eggs" sign from verm x,mine arrived on saturday and is now being used on the front gate,we wont be making on the prices, but all the feed, veg, etc will be covered by the sale of the surplus eggs,i cant remember whose thread it was that highlighted the sign offer, but whoever it was, thank you so very much (and thank you, verm x),we have talked to loads of people asking after the eggs,we just dont have the amount of eggs or room.chooks were enjoying the sunshine until they announced that spring was here, since then, cold, rain, dark, and now told that snow is on the way...aaaahhhhhh...the british summer..again..

Received my sign but not got enough eggs to sell at the moment. I've only 6 hens and 5 of them are ex-batts. Three of these are now taking retirement very seriously. I don't mind, they deserve a rest but it's been nice to have the eggs so am now trying to convince OH that we have room for another couple of hens.
We have had some good weather lately, a bit unpredictable but the girls have been sunbathing. Poor things don't know the cold is about to return.

we have 7 girls, and they are firing on all cylinders,we get 7 eggs x4/5 days a week, and 6 a day for the rest, all are birds born last year and the eggs vary a lot in size, smallest @39gr and the larger ones at around 75/85gr,after 2 dozen on order from neighbours, the rest can be sold, except for my favourite (egg and chips, unbeatable),it seems word of the taste of our eggs had already filtered down the road,so selling the excess doesnt seem like it will be a problem..

if you need eggs at this time of year - can i say that the 4 ducks i rehomed about a month aand a bit ago are on full kilter. 6 days out of 7 i am getting a whopping blue egg from each of the ducks - drakes (2x) doing what they do and i have a dozen in the incubator and one pipped tonight.

Duck eggs are great in baking as they are more elastic and let the cakes rise a bit more!!

as soon as they turn up i will post pictures. i worry actually that the one incy is running too warm (although the probe says not) as they ducks arent due to pip until tomorrow night, and the last lot of chicks came in a day early too....... hopefully they will be ok. dont want to drop the temp now at this stage!

wonderful breed of duck - Duck o' the day - whatever the drake managed to corner!

My garden's not big enough for ducks as well as chickens. My neighbour has them but her garden is 4 times bigger than mine. gggrrr. My mum swears by duck eggs for cakes. I wouldn't know as I always let Mr Kipling do them for me.
