    Rip jenny hen

    It is with much regret that I took my jenny hen to vet today and she had to be put to sleep, she had been suffering with canker and although I had been bathing her eyes with saline solution and crushing garlic for the water with cider vinegar, it was too
    late. my decision came yesterday as I threw grapes down and she couldn't find them....it broke my heart, so the inevitable had to be done.
    I have one lone hen now, Miranda, who I don't want to re-home she is 6 years old,
    I am going to monitor her to see how she fares on her own, if not I have been offered a home by a lady who rescues hens so at least I have an option.
    at least jenny is in peace now bless her

    So sorry.when you loose a member of the family,and your hen was one it is very sad.My son's first pet was a much loved chicken ,known as chick chick.Well he was only four years old at the time,my son not the hen.We took her to school for a pet show and she laid her first egg on the way in the car.Chick chick won first prize.She was carried around with her rear end in a paper bag "in case". Sadly we had to leave her behind when we returned to UK,but she is always remembered,
    Even now fifty years later.he also had a duck,yes called quack quack and a guinea pig called ,you have guessed yes
    Gingin! Pets come and go but One day you will have another hen and remember the fun you had?BigV

      aww...very sad.
      It'd be such a shame to rehome Miranda...could you perhaps get a rescue hen to keep her company??

        thank you both for your replies, nicos I am not in a position to have any more hens unfortunately,
        and really don't want to re-home Miranda at 6 years of age, shes slowing down and needs plenty of leg rest now, I know its not natural for them to be solo but I am going to monitor her and see how she fares, she may not have long herself. its very difficult to know what to do for the best, even if she went to another flock, it may not be best for her at her age, she hangs around with my cat and all the piegons in the garden!! x
