    please can someone answer this question for me

    I have applied to the council to keep chickens on my allotment plot but i am unsure on how to answer this question.
    What safe guards will be in place to prevent acidification of the soil through chicken dung, which would be to the determent of the condition of the allotment?
    i would be so grateful if anyone could be of help

    woodash or application of limestone flour as both are alkaline and noted as soil improvers

      I think you'll find a lot of people will tell you chicken dung is alkaline anyway! However the answer to the question would be to regularly rest the area (using an alternative area as a run) and lime the run and re-seed it. That is actually what I do anyway as it is better for the chooks to have a "clean" run every so often to help prevent or minimise internal parasites. The soil will be super-fertile after the chooks have gone anyway since chicken manure pellets are one of the most favoured feeds for veg!
      Your council seem rather pedantic! They'd be better worrying about the weedkillers some folk spray all over their plots!
