She is Beautiful....Dandelion is a Pied Suffolk....but maybe that's just the local name??Does she lay a dusky pale shelled egg?....she was one of my faves....until she deserted her sis & became "one of the gang" with the other10!!!...Poor little Marigold now sleeps in the back of the coop all on her lonesome!

Have always used bark chippings with no problems at all. It is raked over every day and changed every 6 weeks (goes into the compost). I have heard the stories on here and you must choose what to believe. My view is that all thing are down to general husbandry, some people clean their coops out once a week some monthly, mine are cleaned out every day and disinfected every four weeks, all stale food is removed daily and the run areas have full ventilation. Bacterial mould will usually happen when the ground areas are left dark and damp, hence the mould in bags of chippings that have been badly stored, mine are fresh from the local forestry commission.
