  • Oh No! Poultry Auction!

Mr OWG has just emailed me to say that we'll be having a romantic trip out on Valentine's Day....

To the local Poultry Auction as there are some incubators on the list (and some Marans as well apparantly )

    Very romantic!

        Want to swap!?!

So far, most of birds have been brought home by Mr OWG - 4 ducks for his b'day from a friend, 1 from a bloke at work, 3 hens from same friend who bought him the ducks....

Clitheroe Auction Mart - starts at 10am on Saturday... but you can go from about 8.30am to check out the stuff... there are birds, eggs and deadstock (inc's, housing, etc)

To buy anything you need to be a member, but that costs £2.50 for a year's membership and you can do it on the day before you start bidding...

Like when he brought home Francis, our Runner Duck drake?

Him: Come and see what I've got in the car
                Me: Oh, what is it?
                Him: It's a surprise
                Me: Yay!
Opens boot to reveal a cardboard box

                Me: Goodness, a duck!
Him: Yes, it's a Runner Duck, a drake!
Me: Oh. Well I suppose it'll go well with the 6 surprise ducks we got given 4 weeks ago....
Him: Yep, it's great isn't it!!

I'm sooooo glad I'm working as otherwise I'd have been very tempted to go. In fact I'll be in Clitheroe come to think of it. NO I MUST RESTRAIN MYSELF!!! But might they have ready-made, big runs going cheaply?

                            Seriously have fun--and report back!

Well, I'm feeling very virtuous! We didn't buy anything at all!!!

The incubators that were there were huge ones, 120-200 eggs, so way too big for us!!

2 lots of the Marans that we wanted to look at weren't there and the others went well over our agreed price limit...

I'm not too sad though, as I got my first duck egg this morning

Plus - there is a big poultry auction at Carlisle on 28 February, and we might go to that!!
