    My girls

    I do hope I've done this properly, if not, let me know what I should have done!!! We can't distinguish between them all yet, therefore they are not yet fully named!

    We don't have much snow here, but the girls are enjoying trying to catch any flakes that fall. I have given them porridge this morning, thanks to the other thread about it--they loved it!

    Oh aren't they pretty? What type are they? I love the colour of your hen-house too!

        They are Amber Stars, and very friendly, I just wish I could distinguish between them! I have just moved their temporary enclosure onto the old veggie patch and they are having great fun inbetween the snow showers. I'm planning for them to have the whole back garden eventually (and probably a few more hens!!).
        I have spent most of the day just watching them--not really done much good for my assignment writing!

          Try putting leg rings on them. If you've only got 4 you can just do it with 1 colour -left leg, right leg, both legs and no rings! I did that with my ex-batts when they all looked the same - bald! I have an Amber Rock - same as yours different breeder! She's lovely - nice character - bossy but in a kind way! Have fun!

            Congrats on your new hens. We can't tell between our two australorps so they are just called dumb and dumber (not the most intelligent of the five) or the tweedles (they are supposed to be tweedledum and tweedledee)

                  What a great idea--thank you, we've been trying to think how to do it! Where would I get leg rings from?

                    My lot all have different coloured electrical tape around their legs. (Folded back on itself so no sticky touches their legs.) I know you can get a bag of assorted coloured leg rings very cheaply on Ebay I just keep forgetting to measure legs as it comes in different sizes.

                      I get mine from the places that sell chook food and feeders etc- agricultural places = CountryStore etc or you can get them on line - Homefarm fowls and the Wernlas collection sell them I think or ebay. I use the ones that look like springs as they're easy to put on. Paid about 16p each I think or a couple of pounds for a packet of 20.
