moulting

oooooooooooo dunno!! I got some 17 week POL's at the end of September last year and they've just started moulting, so that makes them only about 10 months. Maybe different breeds do different things. I wouldn't worry though, I don't think it means they're not healthy or anything

dunno either.... just know my ex-bats who i got 1st week feb had just about grown their feathers back and now theyve started to moult, including the POL's i got at the end of Dec

Thanks maureen, I am not worried as they all seem healthy and such but I just find it a bit odd that none of them have started. I guess they will all go at once and we will have weeks of no eggies!

I am thinking they neeeeed a break from it soon.

Sometimes chooks moult about 11 months after they start laying (more at about that stage than any particular other age), sometimes they wait until the nights are growing longer. Potential variation is enornous. Some seem able to moult inconspicuously. It may be that the only sign was the odd wing feather hidden in the nesting material.
They are more likely to all moult at once at the 'right' time of year (as they see it).

mine have moulted twice so far .... and no sign of any eggs yet

They may be hanging fire till Autumn of their first year as propper hens, if you see what I mean? If they are healthy I'd not worry.

Had my girls since Jan 08. They were point of lay then.

They are now approx 19 months old and none of them has gone into a moult yet.

They are still mostly laying one a day as they have been since they started a few weeks after I got them.

I would have thought they would have started by now as I read they do it at a year oldish?

I have an Amber Link who is the same age as yours and she has never moulted. She has laid every day for over a year. My previous POLs were the same time of year (all laying by March) and didn't moult until the end of the following year.
I have a Speckledy who is in her 4th laying season and has only moulted properly once.
They are all fine! I wouldn't worry.
