  • I have a sneaking suspicion .......

.... that all of the 12 (LS cross) chicks I have hatched are cocks! Still, they are meat birds so not a problem really, but just as well I wasn't desperate for girls.

I did hatch one other on its own a bit earlier than the others, same parents, and that has come through looking totally different, and I'm pretty sure she's a girl.

I think it's quite funny really. It's not an issue for me as a) we are going to eat them anyway, and b) we have no neighbours to hear the racket when they start crowing, but it's just as well I hadn't promised anyone any pullets come summer time.

Ironically, the only one we have named this year is the single pullet hatched on Good Friday, who we called Paxo as she was so big I felt sure she was a cock from the start. Now she is looking very girly.
