  • ???first egg again after weeks?????

As you may be awareALL my chooks went broody

Needless to say, we've had no eggs laid now for about 8 weeks now!!!!!

BUT....Alice ...and strangely the boys ..were doing the "I'm about to/have produced an egg " call ...and then she promptly went into one of the laying boxes!!!...fingers crossed she'll be laying regularly again! ( she's the only one without a babe to look after)
Wonder how long before the others start again????

I thought 2/3 of my girls had 'gone off their lay' as we had a refurb of their henhouse and built them a new run! So we have been getting dribs and drabs of eggs. Well on Monday my DS came screaming into the house that he had found "loads of eggs!" Well....???? there were 30 eggs in a 'nest' under the large conifer tree outside our property, about 3 feet away from our 'free range eggs for sale' sign. So the little blighters had obviously gotten it into their heads that they fancied a change of scenery of their own LOL. I checked all the eggs for freshness and they were in perfect condition. On Tuesday I checked the new nest area - no eggs but............there were 4 eggs further around the perimeter of our property tucked away under a huge holly bush. Today I watched them sitting laying in the same area and I had 3 more eggs there this afternoon. Those chickens sure are comical creatures.
