  • does it matter?

delicate subjectdoes it matter that Sox does not 'cover' the girls, unless he does when I'm not looking?he does wingdown dance, he is definately in charge,he sleeps in the middle of hen formation on perch 'one in front, one behind, two each side, is it because he's a bit smaller than them do you think?spose it doesn't matter, never seen him chasing them, he's always very calm and I love the way that if one treks back across the garden to the coop to lay, he brings the others back to a distance where he can make little trips in between the nest boxes and the main group, chatting away to them

Maybe he's just errrrr...........shy?! Maybe you should put a webcam in the coop and become a voyeur!
Unless you want chicks/fertile eggs I guess it doesn't really matter? Or maybe he's just very much in touch with his feminine side!!!

Unless you are hoping to breed from them then no it doesn't matter. If he is significantly smaller than they are then it is unlikely he will be able to get into position properly. Just be aware if he has long spurs he could damage them if he does lots of scrabbling when climbing aboard.

That's something I'm going to need to keep an eye on too when my chicks are fully grown
