do the chickens poo from the perch or do they like to sleep on the perch. I am not sure how high to fix my perch, it would be higher than the nesting box i guess? can anyone help? thanx

They like to sleep on the perch and do 50% of their poos whilst sleeping. I have my perch about 2 foot off the ground , it can be lower but as you say needs to be higher than the nest boxes.

I don't have chickens, but have kept cage birds for years. Most of them poo in their sleep, but my Conure (who is naturally a tree-trunk dweller) - he saves all his night poos up, and in the morning squirts out a really big one, directing it away from his perch (usually onto the kitchen floor)

This is so that in the wild, their poo doesn't contaminate the hollow tree-trunk where they live. Chickens aren't so clever.

Or they know they've got a Butler/servant/cleaner to pick it up each day!
