Hi all just wondering what vaccinations people are giving to their new born chicks if any ? I know there is alot of diff types and they cost alot so any advice would be much appreciated.

I think the general consensus was for us back-yard-chicken-keepers that we'd just hope for the best and keep fingers crossed. However, having said that, all ex-battery chickens are already "done" and I think the majority of POL's from the big breeders/suppliers will also have been doneMy girls found their way into my heart and now they nest thereComment

I think the chick crumb that I bought recently has some kind of medication incorporated in it for to keep them healthy!

I asked someone that the reason they vaccinate is it the girls are kept in big numbers and for transportation purposes and cross contamination. otherwise people dont need to worry about vaccinations. apparentlyComment

Were the chicks hatched in an incubator or under a broody? If a broody, you definitely have nothing to worry about. If an incubator, they might benefit from chick crumb with anti-cocci stuff in it (the broody transfers a lot of protection during natural incubation).

I haven't done any ever. None have been ill or died because of disease and I haven't got salmonella.All vehicles now running 100% biodiesel...

From talking to the chicken farmer when we brought our girls, he said unvaccinated birds are classed organic birds so you should still be able to sell them even if you dont vaccinate them.
