One of mine chirped all day- and I expected it to be hatched by morning.

Bad news was that it didn't- clearly too week to peck it's way out.

Farmers wife said I shouldn't have helped it as it would have been a weakling and probablt died anyway.

Soooo..what I'm saying is.....mine was happily chirping for at least 12 hrs- so I imagine for you ......( cos you WON'T have my bad luck)...start boiling the kettle and getting the towels ready!!!!!

    Exciting isn't it?????

First one of mine was cheeping for 25 hours before she hatched, another only 20 minutes, and the last one hatched out over 90 hours after the first one pipped! It's all in the lap of the gods I'm afraid. As Nicos said, if you help them they might die anyway so, hard as it is not to intervene, let Mother Nature do her job. One very important thing though - make sure you've got your camera ready for photos
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

That has just started to breakout it could take a long time, try not to be to impatient. I went out to stop me sitting waiting as you can see straight into my incubator. Once at that stage one of mine took 2 days.....

She's still going for it just see her beak throght the hole every 15min or so I still cant see the color of her , she is a show winning black red and black Araucana (so im lead to believe)

2 more thing you may know do i need to cut any umbilical cords etc ? i was just going to leave her/him alone for 24 hours in the incubator that brings me to the next one This incubator fan is at the top blowing down pritty fast will the chicks be ok with the wind

They can do it is up to mother nature but on the upside you can see her little beak so she is fine, she now has to turn and crack all the way round some do this really fast once they've got the hang of it.
They all come out dark brown or black until they dry out even the yellow ones
I would go and watch a DVD check back later they will be fine in the bator even with your mega fan.

Good luck and have the camera on standby

                    From what I understand....

They die by suffocation if they've not cracked the shell open within a few hours.
The yolk sac will nourish them for at least 24 hours so it won't die of hunger or thirst.

I'd stop worrying for now ( and then have a gentle pick at the broken bits..but then again- that's me!!!)

Don't worry, there's no cords to cut, blood to mop up or anything yukky. If any hatch during the night it's so lovely to open the incubator in the morning and see fluffy little faces staring up at you Isn't Mother Nature clever

Agree.............it's not like those old Western films where they are running around with buckets of boiling water...............what the heck did they do with all the boiling water anyway?
