  • Cheeky Chicken

One of our chickens now thinks that when we are sat outside in the garden having a drink and a snack that it is allowed to come and eat off our plates.

It is quite funny to see her jump oto your lap and expect a luxury dinner, just need to get her out of the bad habit before she gets a little bit fat!

The other 3 come over and sit down around our chairs and sunbathe, happily pecking at the grass.

    Is this a common thing?

they are only as daft as they want to be..especially when it comes to a free meal, they are not birdbrains then, and they have their favourites, with mine its pasta and sweetcorn, they would kill for it.....

I sat on the floor in the barn doorway today. It was lovely and sunny and I just sat to watch the chooks and horses. Within minutes all the chooks were snuggled up or flat out sunbathing around me.
If Im mucking out or busy they do their own thing, but if I set off down the paddock and 'bok bok' a couple of times they all trundle down with me, theyre not brave enough to go far down on their own, but love to follow 'mum'. And if Im doing something like fixing the fence (which happens a lot cos my 17hh IDxTB thinks they were designed to be knocked down) they all come and supervise. Its so funny when they walk up and peer closely, then give a sort of sympathetic cluck at me.
Anyone who says nothing is impossible has never tried slamming a revolving door
