  • Yellowing leaves

Along the sides of my patch of sprouting broc. I have planted some Dahlia's grown from seed. Just to give a bit of colour to the patch. The leaves are turning yellow particularly on the new leaves. Is this something to do with being next to vedge, they are planted in raised bed with new compost with a PB a bit on the acid side, around 6.5. I have three big water buts and use this water. When the bed was made I gave it a treatment with lime. They are in sun most of the day, when we have any that is. Before being planted out, when in pots they looked fine and healthy. Any advice most welcome, as I don't want to lose the plants if I can help it.

I don't know where you are?
.... if you put your location into your profile we won't keep asking ... but it's really too cold to have dahlias outside yet. Did you harden them off before you planted them outside?

I agree - too early and too cold. That bit of warm weather at the end of April fooled people into thinking the good times were about to roll! How we learned otherwise!

The recent frosts could have done for them, but in this case they would have been blackened. You may be lucky and they may have survived. You could stick cut off plastic pop bottles over them as temporary cloches?

I've just noticed that my dahlias are starting to shoot in the front garden: so it won't be long before my greenhouse ones go out too.
