Wild Garlic, should i?

Hi Tim
Not much help I'm afraid. I've bought some wild garlic seeds to sow this year. Have also read that it can spread, so have decided to sow in containers.

If it's really happy Tim it can spread for miles. The banks of the River Ericht (near me) are covered in acres of it. I would plant it in a container.

I didn't know you could buy seeds. I've seen several recipes that include the leaves sliced and cooked and always fancied it, but I'm a nervous forager so haven't bothered.

I'll look these up and treat as mint I think!

yep its growing like wild fire along the roadside, so if you go for it get it in containers

We had loads of it in the garden of a house we lived in in Essex - previous to that I thought it sounded great, but it was a total bl00dy nuisance!

We have loads of Ramson growing wild in our area and a few times I've tried to transplant some bulbs into a bank at the bottom of my garden. The bank is part if a drainage ditch so keeps quite moist. So far they've all disappeared without trace, maybe I'll try from seed this year but I get the feeling that conditions have to be just right or it just won't survive. All the Ramson round us grows in shade and our bank is in full sun for quite a few hours of the day, so maybe that's a clue?

It will spread quite swiftly but if you crop it for cooking (very good as garlic soup) you will temper its advance.
