  • Where to buy hedging plants?

I've decided I'm going to plant a hedge at the top of my garden instead of getting a fence. I want to get a Berberis one. J Parkers do 25 for £19.95, but have read some bad comments on them before, so not sure if I want to buy from them... Does anyone know anywhere else to buy from?

Lets, hope it will be lesser celendine then

Not much experience with that, do you have to dig it out?

I have to dig it out, as I'm too scared to use weed killer! Its got these little micro bulbs that are a pain to see They say not to dig it out, but its the only way I can get rid of it. And my eyes are highly trained at picking up the bulbs in the soil

You can get rid of bind weed by pulling it, but it just takes along time! I had some in my garden when I moved in, I just dug as much as I could up, then when I spotted new shots, dug them up the best I could with a little hand fork.

Continually pulling out bindweed will weaken it considerably.

A great winter tip, before Spring growth of your plants starts, is to don rubber gloves, pull on old gloves or socks over the top, dip hands into glyphosate then run the bindweed vine though your glyphosate soaked mitts from soil to tip of bindweed. If you can do this a couple of times over the dormant period it might even eradicate it.
If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing to excess

Great tip Eco-Chic, I'm gonna give that a go, cos the bindweed drives me insane and wraps itself round everything!

                            Berberis?Ouch!
We have a beech hedge-looks lovely in the summer but the leaves don't fall down till the spring so they are absolutely everywhere.
The conifers are pretty thirsty so it's not good to plant them too close to the house(ground drainage).
Box hedge is quite nice and easy to keep in shape.
Have a look at B&Q-my friend got a bargain-got a conifers £1 each.I don't know if they have berberis though.

I'm not really a lover of conifers, I picked the Berberis for the thorns mainly and the colour. The end of my garden backs onto a path and some tree's, so hoping that will stop (slow down) anyone coming in
