Hi Hawthorns - thin to 6 - 8" I would have thought for turnip

Once I've got a row of seed 'up and running' I tend to pick out every other one over the course of a couple of weeks until the spacings look about right.

If you whip out all the 'don't need' seedlings in one go when they are small and still vulnerable to slugs and other pests, you're likely to get left with gaps if you have losses.

      That's what I do, anyway.

        Hi Hawthorn,

I have just sown these too. My pack says to pick/eat when they get to about 2" so I am thinning them accordingly to about 3 1/2"

Welcome to the vine too, Mandy

I planted my turnips a few weeks ago now and they are swelling nicely. With turnips you need to thin really in one go as they do not like the least bit of root disturbance.

I have thinned mine to 4" and they are a flatter wider variety which will cope with my stoney ground a little better.
