    Default tomoato plants growing like mad

    My tomato plants are growing like wild fire and are up to the roof of my greenhouse and are bending over, can i cut the tops off them without them being harmed, they have yellow flowers groing at the moment.

    Yes, Suzan you can cut the tops off when they reach the greenhouse roof.

    How far apart are your tom plants? The reason I ask is it is possible to 'unclip' the tom plant from the cane lay it along the ground untill the first truss then start it up a convenient cane. If not, best to nip off the top of the plant.

    Thankyou for the replies, im pleased the tops can be cut off. This is the first year i have grown anything and cant belive how the tomoates have grown and how nice they smell.

    One of mine has reached the top of the conswervatory, I was going to tie some string along the roof from side to side and tie it to that so it goes along!

    I wish I had the same problem. My tomatoes have only got 1ft tall this year - but then I don't have a green house

    Congrats on your prolific tomato growth!

    No problems in doing that although you may not be able to ripen any tomatoes growing from the higher trusses. Mind you, green tomato chutney is delish.
