Peter Seabrook suggests "tapping" (as in a gentle hand tap) tomatoes to encourage pollenation. Any thoughts?

Well as toms usually fertilise themselves by means of the pollen dropping from one bit to another, then I usually do it. I don't believe it's strictly necessary but there's no harm in helping nature along (much though it grieves me to agree with the man with his pro-peat stance - gets off High Horse!)Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I don't usually bother (quite lazy) and always seem to get a good haul of toms but it can't do any harm if you want to.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Bees are better for the job though.
