    Sweetcorn & Pigeons

    Now. I have planted sweetcorn for the first time and started them off by netting the plants. They are now well established good looking plants (although i do say so myself) so my question is:

    Once the plants outgrow the netting is it safe to remove the netting and leave them to their own devices with regards to wood pigeons.?

    I have large amounts of woodies around my garden and despite shooting the odd one or two am concerned those that are left could target the corn cobs. However, i have also read that pigeons only go for the young plants and not the corn cobs. Which is correct.?

    There are wood pigeons round here, they've not touched the sweetcorn at all, or the baby brassicas, but that might be due to not being able to fly thansk to the copious amounts of food the next door neighbour puts out.

      Wood pigeons don't touch ours either and we have loads living on and around the lotties. Squirrels on the other hand......
      Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

        Pigoens don't touch corn...but mice do...once the corn is ripe.

            Pigeons have never touched my corn, I have also never had an encounter with Badgers.

            I think I squirrel once had a nibble, I have seen rats up the corn plant somewhere else.

            However a couple or years ago an escaped greeny/bluey parrot enjoyed plenty of cobs.!!

                My corn is about ready for eating and nothing has touched it.

                  Oh, cool, I feel a lot bettr now. Don't like the idea of the rats though as we had them make a home next to the chickens in the winter. Sorted them out with my mates Jack Russels but I'm sure they are still close. Parrots ??? I've seen a Red Kite recently but no parrots. Obviously not living in a posh enough area. note to myself: Must try harder in life......
