Sowing Sweet Peas

I did mine last week. I soaked the seeds overnight in cold water, drained off, then left on damp kitchen towel until they had started to sprout.

Then - sow them into your paper pots in a cold greenhouse. Don't let them get too wet or the pots will rot

I havn't actually tried this myself with sweet peas yet, but sounds like a good idea - plant seeds in empty tiolet rolls to produce longer roots, you can then plant them out in the tubes saving root disturbance, this worked well with my runner beans this year- they like a cold green house

Started mine off 10 days ago like TwoSheds. Waited for shoots to show then planted into celltrays and put into unheated greenhouse to await developments. Don't keep them too warm, just frost-free.

I sowed my sweetpeas in October and have had them sitting in my backyard and what with hospital stays etc, ive not taken much notice of them. well yesterday i did look and they are two inches high, bless them. So I am very pleased. Backyard is quite sheltered.

yesterday mine were still alive that i planted about june...... not flowered yet and about half way up the arch..... would be pretty cool if the snow doesn't kill them but maybe best to not hold my breath lol

I always plant mine in late March in root trainers and they go on to flower beautifully. Tried them once in the autumn and found it a bit of a fag for no real advantage (maybe a week or so earlier to flower, that was all)

Previously I have always sown in Autumn - this Autumn I haven't bored, I am going for a couple of successional Spring sowings to monitor the difference

Mine are about 6" high in the unheated greenhouse. According to the thermometer, the temp has gone down to -1 at night, are they really going to survive in that temperature?

I've had really rubbish germination from mine so far, only about 8 from 40
